Mangaluru City Corporation acting as Congress puppet, following double standards: MLA Vedavyas Kamath

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, December 24, 2025: The Mangaluru City Corporation has become a puppet of the Congress. Why are flex banners put up by Congress leaders not visible to the authorities, while those put up by temple committees and BJP members are removed? Why is there bias — one rule for some and another for others? questioned MLA Vedavyas Kamath.

Addressing a press conference, Kamath alleged that within the limits of the City Corporation, including areas like Kadri Park and Ladyhill, roadside stalls have been removed only in selected places on the instructions of Congress leaders. He said flex banners put up by Congress leaders are not removed, while those installed by temple committees and BJP workers are taken down. This, he alleged, shows that corporation officials are acting with clear double standards.

He said if flex banners and roadside stalls are to be removed, then all of them should be cleared uniformly. “Why is there discrimination even among poor vendors who earn their livelihood through hard work?” he asked. He accused the state Congress government of running the administration through party diktats. He pointed out that when the Chief Minister visited recently, flex banners were displayed everywhere. After the corporation imposed a ban, the BJP has not put up any flexes. However, flex banners put up in connection with a major programme at the Urwa temple were removed.

Kamath also criticised the introduction of parking fees at Kadri Park despite public opposition. He said the BJP would stage protests against all such anti-people decisions.

BJP mandal president Ramesh Kandettu, Ramesh Hegde, Lallesh Kumar and Bhaskarchandra Shetty were present at the press conference.
