Mangaluru, Nov 3, 2014: A total of seven persons have been arrested by the police in the case reported from a saloon in Kannur on October 31. Police have also seized a Maruti Alto car as well as the weapons used by the assailants in executing the murder.

The arrests were made at Parari near Gurupur where the police were waiting on receiving definite information that the assailants were heading towards the city from Moodbidri. It is learnt they intended to get admitted one of them to the KMC Hospital as one of his fingers was cut off during the incident.
The arrested have been identified as A.K. Riyaz alias Jiya (33) of Adyarkatte, Azman (22) from Ballurgudde in Kannur, Mustaq Ahmed (30) from Kannur, Aneez (22) from Dayamba in Kannur, Fazal (20) from Ganadabettu in Kannur and Hasanabba (29) also from Kannur.
Of the accused, AK Riyaz is said to be the mastermind behind the murder and was a dealer of crushed stones. Another accused Mustaq Ahmed too had several cases against him. Yet another accused Azman is a painter , Aniz a dock yard worker and Fazal a construction worker.
The police sources said the murder of Ijas was a revenge attack and aimed at avenging the killing of one Puttu Monu two years ago.
The arrests were made by a team led by AK Rajesh, Rural Police Station Inspector which was formed by City Police Commissioner to nab the assailants in the case.
