ICAI organizes 2-day national conference on direct taxes

Mangalore, August 20, 2010: The southern India regional council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Mangalore branch, in collaboration with the Direct Taxes Committee organized Anveshana, a 2-day national conference on direct taxes and allied laws, at the Loyola Hall of St. Aloysius College on Aug 20.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vice President of ICAI Mr. G. Ramaswamy inaugurated the event and said that chartered accountancy is one of the subjects that attracts a large number of students. There is no dearth of students passing their CA examinations every year in spite of the attractions of the IT industry, he said. Speaking about the various changes made in the CA entrance examinations during the past 4 – 5 years, he said that students should be trained thoroughly for their examinations. 

Mr. U. K. Basu, the managing director of MRPL, was the guest of honor. In his speech, he said that the government is proposing a series of legislations for chartered accountants and added that the opportunities for chartered accountants are great at present. 

Mr. T. N. Manoharan, a former president, was one of the chief guests of the occasion. A director nominated by the government and chairman of the audit committee of Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (the present Mahindra Satyam), he delivered the first session on direct tax code. 

Mr. Jayant Gokhale, a chartered accountant, and Mr. K. Raghu, a member of the central council of ICAI, were also present.
