I never accused KFD of assaulting me – Rahim Uchil

Mangalore, June 8, 2012 : Expressing shock at the way the media has “misrepresented his statements,” Rahim Uchil, president of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, stated that he had never directly accused the Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) of assaulting him.

Stating that he was shocked to read media reports of his recent press conference, quoting him as holding the KFD responsible for the assault on him two-and-a-half months back, he said that only a handful of newspapers had reported the news correctly. Most of the newspapers had made wrong statements, stating that he had said things he never said. Stating that he is shocked and hurt about this, he complained that these media reports have affected his relationship with many of his friends.

Clarifying issues, he said that he had convened a press meet in his office on June 1, when he said that he had received a couple of threatening phone calls from miscreants who claimed that they were members of KFD shortly before he was assaulted. He said that he had mentioned the KFD only because the police team investigating the case had informed him that the person they had arrested was a member of the KFD.

He further clarified that he had never said that the KFD was responsible for the assault. Stating that he does not wish to hurt anyone’s feelings with such baseless allegations, he clarified that he has no personal grudge against the KFD or any other organization.

Mr. Uchil also stated that it is wrong to blame any person or organization without evidence, particularly when the police are still investigating the case. Expressing his confidence in the police, he said that investigation will soon reveal the truth behind the attack.
