Mangalore, Oct 2, 2013: The Karavali Yuva Sinchana, Vanya Charana Balaga and Rotary Club of Mangalore organised a huge rally in the city on October 2, Wednesday, to prevail upon the government to drop the proposed Yettinahole project which intends to divert the course of river Netravathi. Nurture Nature Club of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, St Aloysius College, Karavali Chitra Kala Chavadi, Kudremukh Wildlife Foundation, Meredian College, Youth Hostel Association of India, All College Association, Aam Aadmi Party (DK), Netravati Samrakshana Samiti, Malenadu Students’ Association, RX Life and Lions Club members were part of the rally.
Kishore Kumar, leader of Malenadu Janapara Horata Samithi who addressed the protestors alleged that the government was planning to implement the project entailing a huge cost, just with an eye on the vote bank least without being bothered about the drastic consequences of the project on environment. He said an appeal has already been made to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to drop the project.
Niren Jain, Chief Co-ordinator of Kudremukh Wildlife Foundation, Dinesh Holla of Vanya Charana Balaga, Niranjan Rai from Save Netravathi Committee of Uppinangady and others took part in the rally.
