Home stay attack – city police arrest 22 culprits so far

Mangalore, Aug 3, 2012 : The city police have arrested seven more men involved in the attack on students who were celebrating a birthday at Morning Mist Home Stay in Padil on July 28, Saturday. This makes the total number of culprits arrested so far to 22.

Moral PoliceOn Sunday, the day after the attack, police had arrested 8 men, including the main accused Subhash Padil. On Monday, they arrested four more, and on Tuesday, they arrested three people. Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the police will arrest many more people soon.

The recently arrested as Sampath Poojary (23) of Kandavara, Suresh Poojary (24) of Veeranagar, Deepak (24) of Maroli, Mithun Poojary (21) of Kulshekar, Ramesh Kotian (40), Jagadish (20), and Nithin (28). They are all from Mangalore and have all been booked under counts of illegal entry, attempted rape, outraging the modesty of a woman, and others.


The Mangalore police commissioner has appointed T. R. Jagannath, assistant commissioner of police, Mangalore South Sub Division, as the investigating officer of the case. He has stated that this is a very important case, owing to which senior police officers must take over the investigation, assisted by other police officers.


Meanwhile, the forest mobile special squad seized three pairs of deer antlers from Morning Mist Home Stay. However, Loretta Rebello, owner of the home stay, and Manjunath, sub inspector of the squad, have not made any statement about this development. Seemanth Kumar Singh said that that the forest mobile squad has not informed him about it.
