Mangalore, Jan 24, 2012: Addressing reporters at a press meet held on January 24 Tuesday, Prof. M. B. Puranik, the regional vice president of the state unit of the VHP, said that Hindu Samajotsavas have been organized for the past 20 years and the event in Uppinangady was held to create awareness among Hindus about the dangers of the proposed Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill. 

Stating that the organizers had obtained prior permission for the same, he said that a number of police personnel were also deployed to maintain law and order, in spite of which a group of people belonging to another community began pelting stones on Hindus who were returning home after the Samajotsava.

 

Condemning on behalf of the VHP and the Bajrang Dal the police move of registering a first information report (FIR) against RSS leader Dr. Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka, he said that the Hindus who came to participate in the Samajotsava were not armed, but were attacked by members of another religious community with the intention of creating communal tension in the area.

Expressing his appreciation of Dr. Prabhakar Bhat, he said that he is a straightforward man who speaks honestly and that the pro Hindu organizations will organize intense protests if the FIR against him is not withdrawn. 

He also said that denying freedom of expression to Hindus is against the Constitution of India and it is dangerous to the country when certain political leaders extend support to people engaged in religious conversions, love jihad, cow slaughter, and drug mafia. 

Hindu leaders Jagadeesh Shenava, Sharan Pumpwell, Gopal Kuthar, Harish Amtady, Shivanand Mendon, and others were also present.
