Mangalore, Aug 19, 2013: Mangalore unit of Jana Jagruthi Samithi organized a protest rally from Jyothi Circle to DC Office opposing cattle slaughter, cattle thefts and illegal abattoirs, on Aug 19, Monday.
Addressing the protest meet held in front of DC office, Manjunath Mandya, Karnataka south zone convener of Bajrang Dal said that Government will not protect our cows and the owners of the cows must themselves take the responsibility of protecting their cows.
He said that the cattle owners must have a lethal weapon kept at home and use them to protect their cattle from thefts. The cattle thefts saw a spurt after Siddaramaiah took charge as CM, he alleged.
He further said the police department which does not mind acting tough in cases of minor crimes, do not bother to register a complaint when cattle thefts and smuggling take place. He also demanded that cattle thieves must be booked under Goonda Act. If the government does not take any action against such activities, the Samithi will take its own measures to protect cattle, he said.
Delivering the presidential address, Dr Vaman Shenoy said that the number of cattle in Mangalore is decreasing with the passing of each day.
Kateel Dinesh Pai, Convener of Jana Jagruthi Samiti demanded authorities to shut down the illegal slaughter houses or else threatened to hold an indefinite hunger strike in front of such slaughter houses.
Jana Jagruthi Samiti President Vidyadar Hegde, Secretary Vijay Gowda, Sharan Pumpwell, MLC Monappa Bhandary and others were present.
