Government soon to implement Right to Health – Aravind Limbavali

Mangalore, Sep 10, 2012: Aravind Limbavali, state health minister, said that the state government is planning to implement the Right to Health to ensure good health for all the people in Karnataka. 


Addressing reporters at a press meet held at the DC’s office on September 10, Monday, he said that Dr. Devi Shetty had submitted a memorandum demanding the implementation of this law at a recently held international conference. The government has, therefore, initiated the procedure and discussions will be held with experts soon.

Stating that Wenlock Hospital has Rs. 9 crore in its fund, contributed by various donors, nurses, practicing doctors, and others, he said that this fund will be used to improve the hospital’s infrastructure. 


Regarding facilities at Wenlock Hospital, he said that the hospital has dialysis equipment, but requires a new building, more doctors, and more specialists. 


Speaking about the health rate, he said that, according to the district administration and the MCC, the health rate in DK is satisfactory. Although two people from the same family died of rat fever recently, it has now been satisfactorily controlled. Regarding surveys for mosquito breeding, the department has not conducted the survey in two taluks and urged them to conduct the survey at the earliest possible.
Admitting that Wenlock Hospital lacks doctors, he said that appointments will be made soon, adding that nurses working on contract basis for a salary of Rs. 8000 will soon be made permanent. 


Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Speaker N. Yogesh Bhat said that the jail ward in Wenlock Hospital is very untidy and must be improved, adding that hospital workers lack quarters. Besides, there is no X-ray machine in the hospital, he added. He also urged the government to introduce a super specialty wing in the hospital and increase the number of beds from 250 to 500. 


Limbavali said that the Vajpayee Arogya Shri Yojana will be implemented in Bangalore and Mysore for BPL holders this October. According to the terms of this scheme, beneficiaries will get treatment for 402 different types of diseases in 135 hospitals and the government will contribute up to Rs. 1 lakh for the treatment, he added. 


DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, MLC Monappa Bhandary, Padmanabha Kottary, MLC Bharathi, DHO O. Shrirangappa, and ZP CEO Dr. Vijayaprakash were also present.
