Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and offered condolences to the families of those who died. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The building, reportedly a 40–50-year-old structure with a basement and five upper floors, was being used as a 75-bed paying guest accommodation. Police said repair work was underway in the basement when the building collapsed around 1.30 pm. The owner reportedly resides in Gurugram.

Teams from the Delhi Police, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Disaster Management Authority, along with fire tenders and CATS ambulances, are involved in the rescue operation.

Satya Niketan, located near Delhi University’s South Campus, has a large student population. Eyewitnesses said around 50 students may have been inside the building when it collapsed, while a student at the spot reported hearing cries for help from beneath the rubble.
