Bantwal, Aug 17: Chandrahas Shetty Bolanthur (45), the former president of the Bantwal Taluk Panchayat, shot himself with a revolver at his old house at Bolanthur in Bantwal on the afternoon of Wednesday. Now, he is fighting for his life at a private hospital in Mangalore.
Reportedly, Mr. Shetty, a businessman, told his family members that he wanted to visit the old house, which is located at a short distance from his new house in Bolanthur. When he failed to return till noon, his family members went in search of him and found that he had locked himself inside the house.
When he did not respond even when they sounded the calling bell, his under Gangadhar Rai broke open the door and saw Mr. Shetty lying in a pool of blood.
Mr. Shetty was immediately rushed to a private hospital and was later shifted to another private hospital.
MLA B. Ramanath Rai and Bondala Jagannath Shetty, the former MLA, rushed to visit him in hospital.
According to the police, Mr. Shetty had left a suicide note in which he had stated that he was shooting himself because he wanted to be free from a painful intestinal disease.
Vivekananda, the circle inspector of Bantwal, and Rakshit Gowda, the sub inspector of Vittla, visited the spot with a team of police officers.
