First Rama Lakshmana Kambala held in Suratkal

Mangalore, Nov 26, 2012 : The first Rama Lakshmana Kambala was organized on Nov 24, Saturday in memory of the late Madhava Prabhu and late Sarvothama Madhava Prabhu in Suratkal.

Beluvai Sadananda Shetty, president of the Kambala Committee, and Vittala Madhava Prabhu inaugurated the event. A stage program was held late that evening at around 5:00 p.m.

In his address, MLA Abhayachandra Jain said that the Kambala is Tulunadu’s traditional sport and farmers should make the most of it. People need to be bribed to attend political events, but they flock to Kambalas out of pure interest.

Speaking about government support for Kambalas, MLA Krishna J. Palemar said that the government has extended Rs. 1 lakh in support of Kambalas.

Mijar Guttu Ananda Alva, Sadashiv Salian Payyottu, and Raghachandra Jain were honored on this occasion.
