Mangalore, Nov 10, 2012: Addressing the press today, Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi leader Ramananda Gowda said that printing images of gods and national leaders on packets of firecrackers and bursting them in public places must be stopped.
Further, he said that laws should be framed against printing of images of Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, and others on packets of firecrackers because the packets will be discarded and thrown on roads, gutters, and waste bins.
He urged the government to take action about firecracker companies that name their products after Hindu deities.
Hanumantha Kamath, the social worker, said that there are several rules regarding the bursting of crackers, adding that crackers creating loud noise and air pollution must not be burst. Besides, people are not supposed to burst crackers in public places after 10:00 p.m., he added.
Urging the police department to take steps against those who violate these rules, he said that the police just park their vehicles instead of going on rounds and punishing offenders.
