Mangaluru, Aug 17, 2023: Development and investigative journalism is getting sidelined in the rush of fast news at a time when digital media is expanding, said K V Prabhakar, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister.
He was speaking at an interaction meeting at the Press Club on August 16, Wednesday on behalf of the DK District Working Journalists’ Union.
Prabhakar said fake news is also increasing due to digital media and added that a fact checking team at the government level was keeping an eye on such fake news.
Prabhakar said in 2013 when the present CM Siddaramaiah himself was leading the state, the retired journalists’ pension was increased to Rs 10,000 and presently it is Rs 12,000. However the retired journalists who are receiving this pension in the state are only 249, he said adding only 45 are availing the pension facility meant for the dependents of deceased journalists. Certain strict guidelines are the reason for less number of beneficiaries, he said adding discussions are underway to relax the rules.
