Family of Ullal teenager whose vital organs were donated, gets Rs 5 lakh compensation

Mangaluru, Mar 21, 2023: The family of a teenager from Ullal, whose  vital organs were donated after  doctors declared him brain dead following severe injuries he suffered in an accident has received a  compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the special grant of Chief Minister.

 

It may be recalled here that Yashraj (16), son of Mamatha Karkera, Tyagaraj couple of Ullal Mastikatte, fell down from a moving bus while he was on way to a college in Mangaluru. He was admitted to Indiana Hospital with serious head injuries and doctors had declared him brain dead on September 13 last year. Later his vital organs were donated giving a fresh lease of life to six people.

 Local MLA U T Khader had visited the residence of Yashraj and had promised compensation from the government.

Stating that there was a need for more awareness on organ donation, Khader said  an appeal has been made for compensation even for the family of Bhushan Rai of Kallaup whose organs too were donated.
