’Will not compare 1971 war to current situation’: CM Siddaramaiah

Mangalore Today News Network

Mysuru, May 12, 2025: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the credit of the war should go only to the Indian Armed Forces and no party should claim it.

CM Siddaramaiah was speaking to media people at the helipad, during his visit to H D Kote, to take part in 134th Ambedkar Jayanti and launch various development works in the taluk, in Mysuru district, on Monday.

Speaking carefully on the current war situation in the country, Siddaramaiah said, "There is a meeting between the DGMO’s of both India and Pakistan today. We will see what decisions are taken in the meeting."

"I will not compare the 1971 war to the current situation. The circumstances then were different from today."

To a query on US President’s tweet, Siddaramaiah said, "I will not speak about either Donald Trump’s tweet or the ceasefire violation by Pakistan. I will limit by opinion to just ceasefire."

Siddaramaiah also opined that an all party meeting should have been convened before announcing the ceasefire. A special Parliament meeting should have been called and a decision announced after discussing about the ceasefire, he opined.

Deportation

To a query, he said, all the Pakistan citizens in the state have been deported. "There are only three children in Mysuru. There are technical problems in deporting them. The husband is a Pakistani, wife is from Mysuru. There are technical issues in sending the children back. Hence, they are still here," he explained.

Cabinet reshuffle

Responding to the media query on whether there will be a Cabinet reshuffle, Siddaramaiah said, "Why are you asking about it ? Will you do Cabinet reshuffle ? It is me, who has to do it. I will inform you all about it before reshuffling."

On the government’s celebration of second anniversary of its rule in Karnataka, the CM said, "We had postponed the event earlier. However, as there was a ceasefire announcement, we will conduct the event. Ours is the only government that has delivered as promised. That is the success of our government."
