Mangaluru, May 12, 2025: Following a recommendation by the Mangaluru police, Meta has taken action against an Instagram page as it was found to be containing inflammatory posts.
In a press release, the city police said these posts, which were intended to create communal tension, were made since the murder of Bajrang Dal activist and rowdy sheeter Suhas Shetty on May 1. This page had over 1 lakh followers.
Three cases on the alleged posting of inflammatory material were registered by social media monitoring police personnel in Barke and Mulky police stations.
Following an investigation by the Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime police, a letter was sent by the city police to Meta, the police said.
Vitla resident booked
The city police have booked Mohammed Anas, a resident of Vitla in Dakshina Kannada, for an alleged inflammatory post.
The social media monitoring cell of the Moodbidri police registered a case on May 7 concerning a post on WhatsApp that stated that six persons were attacked following the murder of Suhas Shetty and that the police were dilly-dallying in arresting VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell, who was behind the attacks.
The CEN police investigated the case and found that it was posted by Anas. He was booked for offence under Section 353 (2) (statements conducive to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Notice will be issued asking Anas to appear before investigation officer for inquiry, the police said.
