Ex-mayor Kavitha Sanil lashes out at Centre, Delhi cops for ill-treating protesting wrestlers

Mangaluru, May 29, 2023: Congress leader and former mayor Kavitha Sanil has lashed out at the Union Government as well as the Delhi police for ill-treating the wrestlers who have been protesting against Wrestling Federation of India Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Speaking to reporters here on May 29, Monday, Kavitha Sanil said as an athlete she knows the struggles of sportspersons. She took strong exception the police action against the protesting athletes on Sunday and said it was highly condemnable to treat wrestlers who have brought laurels to the country in this manner. She described May 28 as a Black Day for sportspersons.

She said the government was unwilling to take action against Singh who is also an MP of a ruling party. Singh must resign from his post, Kavitha Sanil demanded. She said the PM who gets photos clicked with sportspersons when they win medals is now not ready to do justice to them.

Several women Congress leaders including Appi, Sabitha Misquith were present.
