Stating that Karnataka has to depend on thermal plants to generate electricity, he urged Union Power Minister Veerappa Moily to allot coal blocks to the state to run thermal power plants and generate electricity.

Eshwarappa said that the state needs to redouble its efforts to produce extra electricity to overcome its power problems. He urged the NTPC to finish its 4000MW power station project at Kodgi in Bijapur at the earliest possible.

The minister also said that the government will take steps to launch solar plants in CMCs, GPs, and TMCs.

About Kollur’s Solar HCPV Power Plant

This power plant, the construction of which cost Rs. 13.57 lakh, is the first of its kind in the country. It is a high-concentration power plant with triple junction solar chips that transform modules of sunlight into solar energy.

The power plant has an increased efficiency of 36% because of the presence of the frenal lens in its technology. It uses its dual axis sun tracker to work from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and generates 3 – 4 units of solar power daily.

The technology is the result of the collaborative efforts of Enolar Systems of Bangalore and the Meridian Green Energy International Company of Hong Kong. The solar energy produced will be used to light 70 LED street lights in Kollur.

Girish, director for Meridian Green Energy International, said that the companies will introduce vertical axis wind turbine technology to generate five more units of power. But, this will cost an extra Rs. 4.5 lakh, he added.
