Bantwal, June 15, 2013 : Three members of a family from Hassan sustained injuries when the ambulance in which a woman in a critical state was being taken to a hospital in Mangalore, rolled down the road at Budoli bridge near Maani on June 14, Friday evening. It is said drunken driving by the ambulance driver is the cause of the mishap.
The accident took place when Zubaida Banu from Hassan was being taken to a hospital in Mangalore by her husband Amir Jan(69) and daughter Kausar.It is learnt, the ambulance had two drivers to drive by turns and both were resorting to reckless driving despite the appeal of the family to slow down. Sources said the two drivers Ganesh (28) and Nagaraj (23) from Hassan, had consumed alcohol at Gundia and when the family asked them to slow down they proceeded at break- neck speed resulting in the mishap.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore and the drivers have been taken into custody by the Vittal police.
