Don Bosco Youth Centre extension inaugurated on Don Bosco feast

Shirva Jan 14, 2012 : The extension of the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Shirva was inaugurated on the Feast of Don Bosco on Jan 12 Thursday.
Fr. Ian Figueiredo, the Salesian provincial, inaugurated and blessed the structure in the presence of Fr. Baptist Menezes, the Episcopal vicar of Udupi; Fr. Stany Tauro, the parish priest and vicar forane of Shirva; and Fr. Valerian Pinto, the former parish priest of Shirva.
The extension includes dormitories, refectory, and kitchen.
A festive mass was offered with Fr. Pinto as the chief celebrant. In his homily, he spoke of the life and works of Don Bosco and urged the gathering to follow in his footsteps.
A thanksgiving speech was delivered by Fr. Maxim, the director of the Don Bosco Youth Centre. He expressed his gratitude to all the friends and benefactors of DBYC, Shirva.
A felicitation ceremony was later held, during which the contractor, the architect, and benefactors were felicitated.
A cultural presentation by the boys of Don Bosco Youth Centre marked the end of the event.
