Mangaluru, Jun 04, 2021: The Association of Medical Consultants of Mangaluru as well as the Mangaluru chapter of the IMA have come out strongly against the allegation of denial of treatment to a Covid infected pregnant women. The AMC has said that the allegations were made with the objective of tarnishing the image of doctors and also to project in bad light the doctor who treated the woman since the beginning.
The joint press meet convened by AMC and the Mangaluru Chapter of IMA was held at the IMA Auditorium in Mangaluru on June 4, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, K R Kamath, President of AMC said the allegation of some vested interests has demoralised the doctors who are working under strenuous conditions during the present Covid times.
Dr Priya Ballal who spoke on the occasion, made it clear that she did not deny treatment to the woman who was Covid infected. "I had given suitable advice to her and her family at every stage. She had called on the night of May 17 complaining of cough and cold when I had suggested to go for a Covid test. On May 19 she called and informed of breathing problem when I had suggested to get admitted and go for Covid test. When her condition deteriorated I had told her to get a higher treatment, I had never told her not to get admitted to any hospital. I have not given wrong advice to any patient during my 21 years of service," Dr Ballal said.
She further said someone from the woman’s family called and informed that she delivered a baby on May 20 at Ladygoschen and the mother and child are fine."But we did not expect these kind of allegations,’’ Dr Ballal said.
Dr Jayaprakash and Dr Murali who also spoke refuted the allegations made by the woman’s family.
Indiana Hospital Chief Dr Yusuf Kumble demanded that the incident must be thoroughly probed as the allegations have hurt the doctors during the present Covid times.
