District administration observes 120th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar

Mangalore, April 14: The DK district administration and the DK Zilla Panchayath jointly celebrated the 120th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Town Hall on April 14, Thursday. District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar inaugurated the event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Speaking of the greatness of the Indian constitution, he said that it is unique and is respected by the entire world although a number of amendments have been made to it. Urging the future generation to adopt the principles of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, he said that his birth anniversary should be celebrated grandly every year.

Dr. M. Kumara Swamy, assistant lecturer of Mangalore University, was the chief speaker of the event. Speaking of the greatness and achievements of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, he said that Ambedkar spent his entire life working for the welfare of the downtrodden. He also said that his principles were widely discussed and regretted the fact that people today pay respects to his statue without bothering about his principles.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that although people of different religions consider their respective holy books as sacred, the only sacred book of India is the Constitution.

Arun Furtado delivered the welcome address, and Rohit Ullal was the MC. Prominent people such as K. T. Shailaja Bhat, the ZP president; B. Nagaraj Shetty, the chairman of the Coastal Development Authority; Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the MCC commissioner; Seemanth Kumar Singh, the police commissioner of Mangalore; DC Subodh Yadav; Mayor Praveen; and Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak were present.
