DYFI demands action against Kadri Police Inspector Kiran Kumar

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb 27, 2012: N. L. Bharathraj, the president of the state Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), told reporters at a press conference that around 1,80,000 government posts lie vacant all over the state and urged the state government to earmark funds for employment generation in the upcoming budget session.

Voicing his opinions on investors’ meetings held all over Karnataka, he said that such developments are not friendly to farmers who own small agricultural plots. Terming these moves on the part of the government as “industrialization of agriculture,” he said that they do not benefit poor farmers in the state.

He also suggested that 30 percent of the budget must be earmarked for education as this will improve the quality of education across the state.

Muneer Katipalla, the president of the district unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), has demanded that action must be taken against Kadri Police Inspector Kiran Kumar, who arrested the owner and workers of Moon Shine, a beauty parlor and spa in the city. He was addressing reporters at a press conference held on Feb 27 Monday.

It may be recalled that the owner of Moon Shine had called a press conference a few days back, alleging that the police had conducted a raid on his beauty parlor and spa just to harass him because he refused to pay the hafta they demanded. He also released CCTV footage related to the raid.

Stating that this isn’t the first complaint of misuse of power against Inspector Kiran Kumar, Muneer Katipalla recalled a suicide case in Urwa in which the deceased had named Kiran Kumar as responsible for his death.

Stating that they no longer trust the commissioner, who is clearly trying to protect Kiran Kumar, he said that the DYFI in association with women’s organizations will stage an intense protest.

Dayanand Shetty, the secretary of the district unit of the DYFI, was also present.
