Mangalore, Oct 25, 2013 : Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda has urged the state government to take steps towards distribution of the Rs 175 crore package announced for areca growers, to eligible beneficiaries in an effective manner.
Addressing press persons at the BJP office on October 24, Thursday, he said the announcement of the package by the Centre is a victory for the two and a half month long fight of the areca growers who are distressed due to Kole disease. He said the growers will now call off the protest planned on October 29 but warned that the fight would continue if the government fails to reach out the compensation to the target group.
Accusing the state government of not coming to the aid of the areca growers despite repeated appeals, he said now it is up to the government to ensure effective distribution of the package announced by the Centre.
District BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak, General Secretary Kishore Rai, Spokesperson Jayaram Shetty and others were present.
