Mangalore, June 17: The Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union (DKWJU) has condemned the murder of Jyotirmoy Dey and demanded a CBI probe into the gory incident.
The union has submitted a memorandum to Prabhakar Sharma, the additional deputy commissioner, to take immediate action against those responsible for the murder. The memorandum is addressed to Smt. Prabhibha Devi Singh Patel, the president of India, and states that the murder of Dey is nothing but an attempt on the part of criminal and anti-social elements to silence the press and to curb its freedom and that journalists will refuse to bow down to this pressure.
Through their memorandum, the journalists have urged the president to instruct all the chief ministers of all the states to take steps to ensure the safety of journalists on duty.
DKWJU President P. B. Harish Rai, Vice President Ramakrishna R., Vice President Jagannath Shetty, General Secretary Shrinivas Nayak, Secretary Wilfred, and others membes of the DKWJU executive body were also present.
