Mangaluru, May 02, 2023: The act of the police who reportedly forcibly made passengers alight from taxis and took the taxis for the purpose of election duty, has come under strong criticism from the Deputy Commissioner M R Ravikumar who is also the District Election Officer.

DC

While pointing out that government vehicles as well vehicles of government owned companies are used for election purposes, he said there is also scope to use public vehicles if there is necessity of more vehicles. However there is no way passengers can be made to alight from vehicles forcibly, the DC has made it clear.

It may be recalled here that following information that police had forcibly made many passengers to alight from taxis on Monday morning, the Dakshina Kannada District Taximen and Maxicab Association President Anand K  had reacted sharply and had even threatened that taxi drivers would boycott elections on May 10 if this attitude continued.
