Mangalore, Dec 14, 2011 : A number of preparations are being made for the 17th National Youth Festival 2012, which is scheduled to be held on Jan 12 – 16 in Mangalore.


youth 1Delegates can register at an online registration control room that has been specially set up for the benefit of those interested in participating. DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda inaugurated the online registration control room, which can be accessed at www.nyf2012.in. A help desk has also been set up and can be contacted by calling 0824-6555001/03/06 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Over 6000 young people from 5 SAARC nations, 28 states, and 7 union territories are expected to participate in the event.

The DC has announced that 18 competitions will be held at Koragappa Kalyana Mantapa, Devadiga Bhavan, Gokarnanatheshwara Kalyana Mantapa, Dr. T. M. A. Pai Convention Centre, SDM Law College, and Scouts and Guides Bhavan. Seven non-competitive events will be held at Kadri Park, Sangha Niketan, Karavali Utsav Grounds, Nehru Maidan, Loyola Hall, and Panambur Beach. Besides, star night programs will be organized as part of the festival at Mangala Stadium on Jan 13 – 15.

The 17th National Youth Festival will be inaugurated on Jan 12 by President Prathibha Patel.

The event has been funded by both the union and the state governments, with the state government providing Rs. 10 crore and the central government releasing Rs. 2 crore.

The participants will be accommodated at a wide range of venues such as college hostels, lodges, and guest houses. Food will be arranged at Dr. T. M. A. Pai Convention Centre. The participants will also be taken on tours to historic places, beaches, and tourist hotspots. A Kambla will be held at Pilikula and a special boat race and beach volleyball will be held at Panambur.

If visitors wish, they can spend their holiday in house boats on the River Nethravathi. These house boats have been specially brought for the purpose from Kerala.
