DC Subodh Yadav assures funds to solve water woes

Mangalore,Apr 14 : Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav said that funds will be released from district drought relief fund for solving drinking water woes in the district.

Chairing a review meeting, he said if the local body heads, especially Town Municipal Council (TMC)/Town Panchayats write to the Deputy Commissioner seeking funds for drinking water, then funds will be released from the drought relief fund.

He said the demand for tax from seven urban local bodies was Rs 405.31 lakh during 2010-11. By March 31, a sum of Rs 391.32 lakh has been collected, thus achieving 97 per cent success.

A sum of Rs 34.33 lakh has been collected from the renewal of trade lincenses from 9,078 traders in seven TMC limits. The traders should collect their license mandatorily, the DC said.

He said as many as 1,325 persons will be provided with housing facility under Vajpayee Nagara Vasathi and Namma Mane yojane in the district.

About 1,139 persons have already submitted their applications.

The applications of 565 beneficiaries who were selected under Ashraya Samithi has already been sent to the banks. Under Vajpayee Nagara Niveshana Yojane, the target is to provide sites for 2,650 beneficiaries. The authorities have received a total of 6,237 applications from beneficiaries for sites.

The Deputy Commissioner said that measures have been taken to distribute title deeds for 62 beneficiaries in Bantwal taluk.

However, owing to technical reasons, it is getting delayed. Title deeds have already been given to 22 beneficiaries in Belthangady taluk while 100 title deeds in Moodbidri and 25 in Sullia will be distributed to the beneficiaries at the earliest.
