Cross-Party unity pushing to rename Dakshina Kannada as Mangaluru district

Mangaluru, July 8, 2025: In a rare show of unity, leaders from the Congress, BJP, and JD(S) have come together on a common platform to press for the renaming of Dakshina Kannada district to Mangaluru district.

Prominent figures supporting the move include Dayanand Kattalsar, Congress leader Rakshit Shivaram, BJP leader Kiran Kodikal, JD(S) leader Akshith Suvarna, and former MLA Moidin Bava.

The demand has been gaining momentum, especially with strong backing from Tulu organizations, which have launched a widespread campaign advocating for the district’s renaming.

Following a surge in support on social media, a formal Mangaluru District Tulu Support Committee has been formed to lead the movement. The initiative has seen support across political and religious lines.

In a Google Meet involving over 600 participants, a collective decision was taken to push forward with the renaming demand. Participants included noted Tulu writers, folk scholars, and religious leaders from across the district.

Efforts are also being made to ensure that the call for renaming echoes strongly in the state capital.

Speaking at a press conference, Dayanand Kattalsar shared details of the campaign and the committee’s future plans.
