Cordel Parish, Kulshekar celebrates consecration centenary

Mangalore, Feb 19, 2012: The valedictory of the centenary celebrations of the consecration of the Holy Cross Church in Kulshekar was held in the premises of the church in Feb 18 Saturday. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, inaugurated the event.

A mass, with Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza as the chief celebrant and Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, the bishop of Shimoga, concelebrating was held.

Later in the evening, a formal stage program was held. A documentary illustrating the history of Cordel Church formed part of it.

The dignitaries on the dais were the two bishops; Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly; Justice B. V. Pinto, the high court judge; Pratap Reddy, the IGP of Western Range; Fr. Valerian Pinto, the parish priest of Cordel Church; Praveen Patrao, the vice president; George D’Souza, the secretary; and Sushil Noronha, the convener of the jubilee celebration committee.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhat congratulated the parish priest and the people of Cordel parish for their services and also lauded the achievements of the church school, which has secured 100 percent results. He also expressed his appreciation of the Bethany sisters for their social services.

The two bishops and IGP (western range) Prathap Reddy also addressed the gathering on this occasion.

Frad Saib and the Church of Cordel by Fr. Devadutta Kamath and Cordel 100, the director of the Cordel Parish, were released on the occasion. While Justice B. V. Pinto released the former book, Prathap Reddy released the latter.

Fr. Swebert D’Silva, the principal of St. Aloysius College, and Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St. Aloysius Institutions, were honored on this occasion. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, Fr. Lawrence D’Souza, and Fr. Gregory William Vas, the former parish priests of Cordel, along with Fr. Valerian Pinto, its present parish priest, were also felicitated. The sponsors of the event were also honored.

A centenary jubilee meal was also served on this occasion.

A colorful entertainment show featuring dance, song, music, mime, and skit was presented by the members of the YCS and the ICYM.
