Mangalore, Aug 22, 2013: Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar on August 21, Wednesday told the media that the police have been successful in cracking four theft cases and seizing several valuables. The Commissioner also gave details about the cases.
In one case, the CCB Police have arrested one person who cheating people after selling ordinary idols after making people believe that they were antique idols.
The arrested person is HA Siddique of Ujire.Another accused Abdul Razak Faizi of Nandavara is still at large. Informing this to reporters here on August 21, Wednesday, Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar said the accused had approached one Meera and had said they had antique idols for sale.
They struck a deal and sold six idols to Meera for Rs 14 lakh. But when she realized that the idols sold to her were fake, she lodged a complaint with Mangalore South Police. Idols which the accused had intended to sell to people after cheating them have been seized. A total of 14 idols including seven idols which the accused had sold to the woman have been seized. The actual value of these idols has been estimated at Rs 3 lakhs.
It is learnt , the arrested man had once earlier been caught on similar charges and after release was residing in Ujire.
3 arrested for looting Gulf returnee at Hoigebazar
The Commissioner also gave details regarding another case wherein Pandeshwar police have arrested three persons on the charges of assaulting a person and looting cash and valuables from him near the Hoigebazar railway gate recently. The arrested are Sharookh (19) of Bunder, Saukath (30) of Kudroli and Mohammad Hameer (17) of Attavar. Yet another accused Tanzil is absconding.
The incident had taken place on August 18 when Valerian Charles who had returned hometown recently from Kuwait, was on way to the Rosario Church at around 5 pm. It is learnt when Valerian approached the church gate a stranger (Tanzil) had approached him and had introduced himself as his classmate and took him near the railway gate where the three attacked Valerian, robbed his gold chain valued at Rs 65000, a mobile phone worth Rs 25000, ICICI Bank ATM card and a cash of Rs 5000.
The police were in search of the accused after Valerian lodged a complaint at the Pandeshwar station. On August 21, the police on gathering information that three strangers were lurking suspiciously near KMC Hospital, Attavar rushed to the spot when the three began to run on seeing the cops. Finally they were intercepted near Rosario Church when the recent looting case came to light. The stolen goods have also been recovered.
Rajasthan man arrested :
Manish Karbiker said that in another theft case, police have arrested Sagar Gehlot from Rajasthan for looting 3.44 kg gold belonging to his employer. In this case, the police sought the help of Ahmedabad police to nab him as the accused had fled to Ahmedabad after looting the gold.
Jewellery thieves nabbed
In yet another case, during night patrolling at Moodbidri, the police have arrested two persons on the charges of looting a jewellery store in Moodbidri. The two were spotted near Hanuman Temple, Moodbidri and the police recovered 675 grams of jewellery which they had abandoned on seeing the cops. They had stolen the jewellery from Lakshmi Jewellery in the town.
