Mangalore, Sept. 13, 2012: M. Purushottam Kottary, president of the Civil Contractors’ Association, said that, although beautiful buildings are being constructed in the district, the contractors are finding it difficult to maintain quality.
Addressing reporters at a press conference held today at Hotel Woodlands, he said that contractors cannot find the required construction workers and construction material.
Stating that laterite stone is the basic construction material required, he said that 18” high, 9” wide, and 6” thick laterite stones are no longer available. The only laterite stones available these days are 13” high, 8.5” wide, and 8” thick, and if these stones are used in construction, the joints will develop cracks and lead to severe problems in future.
He urged those associated with the laterite stone industry to provide the required construction material so that contractors can maintain quality.
