Mangalore, August 16, 2011: Manjunath, the president of the State Congress SC/ST Cell, said that the Congress has started its Congress Nadige Janara Balige today in each of its blocks.
Addressing reporters at a press conference held at the District Congress office on Aug 16 Tuesday, he said that the Congress has a strong base in Mangalore since top Congress leaders such as Oscar Fernandes and others are from Mangalore. He also said that the Congress has played an important role for the development of rural villages.
He also said that the cell will support people of SC and ST communities, who have been harassed by the upper caste and other political parties.
Speaking about fake caste certificates, he said that the president of the SC Minorities Commission has taken up this issue and will cancel fake certificates and will take stern action against the authorities who issued it. He also said that the cell will hold a state-level convention in the second week of every September in Bangalore.
Flaying the current government, he said that they have already proved that they have no interest in legislature, constitution, and judiciary.
Congress leaders P. V. Mohan, Mamatha Gatty, Ivan D’Souza, MLA U. T. Khader, Padmanabha Naringa, Shahul Hameed, and others were also present.
