Congress hollers for CBI inquiry into illegal mining issue

Mangalore, July 16: The district Congress committee organized a rasta roko at the Hampankatta signal demanding a CBI probe into the illegal mining issue on July 16, Friday.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Congress leader Ivan D’Souza pointed out in his protest speech that, although CM B. S. Yeddyurappa is willing to take the issue to the centre, he is unwilling to take action against the ministers involved in the illegal mining scam. He urged the centre to order a CBI probe into the issue. He also urged the Election Commission to take action against the chief minister for using derogatory language in Assembly.

The protestors shouted slogans against the chief minister and the BJP-led state government. Later, the police arranged a city bus and a police van to take the protestors to the police station. About 100 male and female Congress activists had participated in the protest.

Arun Coelho, the president of the Youth Congress; Kallige Tharanath Shetty, the former president of the Youth Congress; Congress spokesperson M. J. Hegde; Shashidhar Hegde; Moideen Bawa; and Suresh Ballal also participated in the protest.
