Mangalore, July 29, 2012: The Congress party, on July 29, Sunday, held a protest in front of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) office in spite of the prohibitory orders clamped on the city.

Youth Congress leaders Mithun Rai and Praveenchandra Alva; Congress leader Bola Jagannath Shetty; and Ivan D’Souza, secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), along with a number of Congress workers gathered in front of MCC office to protest against the attack on students partying in Morning Mist Home Stay on July 28, Saturday.

The police, however, prevented them from holding any protest as Section 144 has been clamped on the city.

Although the Congress workers agree to withdraw their protest, they began shouting slogans all of a sudden once again. The police rounded them up and detained all of them.  The public as well as students, who had joined the protest, were also chased away by the police, who had to once again use their lathis to disperse the crowd.

Around 25 police officers were required to bring things under control.
