Congress appoints leaders for Udupi – Chikamagalur by poll campaigns

Udupi, Feb 27, 2012 : According to a Congress press release, Sonia Gandhi, the president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), has appointed Oscar Fernandes, the general secretary of the AICC and Rajya Sabha member, as the chairman of the campaign committee for the Udupi – Chikmagalur by polls, which are scheduled to be held on March 18.

M. A. Gafoor, the secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, who issued the press release, has stated that Mrs. Gandhi has approved the proposal to appoint Mr. Fernandes as chairman of the campaign.

Besides senior party leaders have also being appointed as in-charges of 8 assembly segments in Udupi and Chikmagalur.

The in-charges for H. Vishwanath and H. K. Patil (Udupi), R. V. Deshpande and Motamma (Kundapur), R. Rehaman Khan (Kaup), Veerappa Moily (Karkala), Janardhan Poojary (Mudigere), S. M. Krishna (Chikmagalur), Mallikarjuna Kharge (Shringeri), D. K. Shivakumar and K. H. Muniyappa (Tarikere).
