Compound wall collapsed in landslide at Ladyhill

Mangalore, Jul 3: A hillock adjacent to the property of Deepak of Pais Hill below SP’s bungalow at Lady Hill caved in, damaging Mr. Deepak’s compound wall in the process. This happened today at 11:30 a.m.

A 3-year-old child narrowly escaped from injury when the hillock collapsed. The stones rolling down the hillock hit the wall as well as the back door of the house.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Deepak said that they had been living in the house for the past 17 years and had earlier appealed the superintendent of police to arrange for the construction of a reclining wall as their house was in risk of being damaged due to landslides in the monsoon.

Dr. K. N. Vijaya Prakash, the commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), Mayor Praveen, and an MCC engineer rushed to the spot. The commissioner said that the place will be repaired soon and assured that sand bags will be placed on the spot as a temporary measure.

Residents are terrified that another landslide might occur if immediate steps are not taken to prevent it.
