Mangalore, Aug 15, 2013: The 67th Independence Day was celebrated with pomp at Nehru Maidan on August 15, Thursday. District in charge Minister Ramanatha Rai hoisted the National Tricolour. He was later taken in a open jeep to receive the guard of honour.
Speaking on occasion, he said that every citizen of the country must remember the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and it is the duty of each and every one to revere those great personalities.
He said that the state has made remarkable progress in terms of rural development and has also ensured regular supply of drinking water facility. Further too the government will work for the development of the state and ensure good roads, housing, healthcare, security, good education, and law and order.
The state government has completed its 100 days in office and has successfully launched some of the schemes as promised in the party manifesto during elections. The government has also introduced people-friendly programmes during the past two-and-a-half months and further will aim to work towards making Karnataka a model state, he said.

A colourful march past by the teams comprising of DAR KSRP, civil police, traffic police, women police, home guards, fire and safety personnel, NCC army, NCC naval, NCC air wing, Doberman security, scouts, guides, road safety patrol girls and boys, Bala Seva Dal girls and boys and Satya Sai music band, Alape and Police band enthralled the audience.
The NCC air wing (senior) won the first place while the second prize went to Satya Sai music band for the beautiful march past.
The Minister honoured Nesar Poojary, student of Yenepoya School for his achievement in chess, karate, music and many other activities. Dinesh Kumar, who was leading the police band for the 40th year, was also felicitated.
Ratnakar Naik’s mini helicopter fitted with a camera was the special attraction on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, IGP Pratap Reddy, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, SP Abhishek Goyal, Police Commissioner Manish Karbikar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Monappa Bhandary, and others were present.
The Minister also inaugurated the Independence Day Cup cricket tourney to be played by Police Department, District Administration office, Banks and Press.
