Mangalore, Dec 14, 2013: The two day street art expo -Kudla Kala Mela organised by the Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi with the co-operation of Department of Kannada and Culture and the Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy, opened near Kadri Park in Mangalore on December 14, Saturday. Mangalore city Corporation Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde inaugurated the event. Over 10,000 works of art of over 180 artistes are on display in 137 stalls on either sides of the Kadri Park Road.





In his inaugural address, the Commissioner said art forms not only provide solace to the minds but also help us to retain our originality in the modern day world. Man who is after material gains at the same time struggles for happiness in life. An artist has been gifted with the great power of bringing down his imagination on the canvas. We should encourage our children to visit such exhibitions and develop an interest in art in them, said Hegde.
Local corporator Roopa D Bangera inaugurated the art stalls at the venue. Harikrishna Punaroor, former Kannada Sahitya Parishat President presided over the function. CH Krishnaiah Shetty, former president of Karnataka Lalitha Kala Academy, Vishnu Shiva Guru, President of Karavali Kala Chavadi, Koti Prasad Alva, its Honorary Advisor and K Sudhindra, Registrar of Lalitha Kala Academy, were present.
Tributes were paid to senior artiste Jagadish Ammunje who passed away recently.
