Mangalore, April 22: Christians all over Mangalore observed Good Friday with great devotion on April 22, Friday in memory of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. The Passion of Christ is the most important feature of the Lenten season for Christians all over the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Way of the Cross was performed in the premises of Infant Jesus Shrine in Bikarnakatte and many other churches across the city. People gathered in large numbers to meditate on Christ’s journey to Calvary, where he was crucified. The Way of the Cross, which was held in open air, was based on the theme “Purpose of Human Existence.” Later, prayers were offered for the needy, the poor, the sick, and the suffering.

The All Banks Christian Employees’ Association organized Way of the Cross on the grounds of Milagres Church. The ritual was unique because it was a live enacting of all the 14 Stations, depicting the journey of Christ to Calvary, where he was crucified. The script was written and narrated by Prem Lobo. The role of Jesus was played by Stany, who gave such a good performance that he had everyone in tears. Rubeena D’Souza played the role of Mary, Nizel Pereira played the role of Simon of Cyrene, and Dilraj, Kevin, and Vivian were the soldiers. Roshni played the role of Veronica who took pity on Jesus and wiped his face with a piece of cloth.

The Way of the Cross commenced at 8:00 a.m. and a large number of people participated in it.
