Chess tournament - sixth round concludes with Malleshwar Rao leading

Mangalore, Oct 13: J. Malleshwara Rao of Andhra Pradesh is now in the lead, having earned 5.5 points in the CAI South Zone Chess Tournament organized by the Mangalore-based King’s Academy for the Karnataka State Chess Association at Shrinivasa Kalyana Mantapa on VT Road in Mangalore. 


The second position is occupied by Rohan Shandilya of Jharkhand, Abdul Majid of Kerala,

Satyanarayana of Andhra Pradesh, Praveen Kamath of Karnataka, and Arun Adappa of Karnataka. Each of these players has earned 5 points each. 


The seventh round is now in progress and the last and eighth round will be played Friday.

The champion will receive the Panama Trophy and a cash award of Rs. 25,000. A total prize pool of Rs. 2 lakh will be distributed among the participants at a special ceremony, which will be held on Friday at 3:30 p.m. 


Geetha N. Nayak, the deputy mayor of MCC; Derik Pinto, the president of the Karnataka State Chess Association; Anand G., the president of BVSSS Bank; and Prasanna Rao, the joint secretary of the Chess Association of India, will distribute the prizes.
