Charred bodies of 4 of family found inside house at Kannur

Kasargod, August 20, 2013: The charred bodies of four members of a family were found inside their house at Cherupuzha in Kannur in the early hours of August 19, Monday. It is suspected that the family committed suicide.

Residents of the area first heard the sound of a loud explosion from the house. As they rushed they saw the house in flames. Police and fire service personnel too rushed to the spot and found four charred bodies including that of two children inside a room in the house.

The deceased are Saji (42) his wife Sindhu (31), children Adhira (10) and Athulya (5). Police suspect that Saji, a carpenter first killed his wife and children by poisoning them and then set the house on fire. Kerosene and petrol cans found inside the house ascertains this.

Senior police officials including Kannur SP Rahul R Nair visited the spot. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Cherupoya police are investigating the case.
