Mangalore, Oct 23: V. Dhananjay Kumar, the former minister, accused the union government of attempting to tarnish the public images of elected BJP members by unleashing the income tax department on them. Urging the centre not to take such drastic measures, he warned that the BJP will intensely protest such a move.
Speaking to reporters in Mangalore, Kumar said that reliable sources had told him that the centre is planning income tax raids on prominent BJP leaders in a bid to tarnish their public image. He added that the centre wants to project an image of the BJP government as steeped in corruption since people hardly bother to analyze such situations and take them at face value.
Referring to H. D. Kumaraswamy’s “CD bomb” as a bunch of lies, he said the CM B. S. Yeddyurappa is right not to investigate the CD. Since Kumaraswamy prefers to run to the governor every now and then, the CM does not have to get the CD investigated especially when no complaint has been lodged.
Urging the Opposition, and especially the JD (S), not to continue its attempts to topple an elected government, he said that the government should be allowed to complete its term, adding that the people should decide whether the BJP should continue in power once the term is completed. He also urged the Opposition to respect democratic norms.
Pointing out the fact that the elected representatives of the Opposition are not in favour of a mid-term poll, he said that their demand to suspend the assembly and not dissolve the house reflects this fact. Stating that the Opposition has no confidence to approach the people, he pointed out that the no-confidence motion cannot be brought against a government within six months of it winning such a motion.
He also said that Deve Gowda should not have stated that the atmosphere in the assembly is so foul that all the perfumes of Arabia cannot clean it and criticized Gowda’s immature political approach although he had once been the PM of India.
In response to a reporter’s query, he said that Renukacharya was taken back into the party even after his dissidence because he had not gone against the party, but was only trying to bring the rebel MLAs back to the party.
Prominent citizens of Mangalore such as Mayor Rajani Dugganna were present at the press conference.
