Mangalore, Jan 28, 2012: CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the newly constructed commissionerate office, located near Nehru Maidan on Jan 28 Saturday.
In his inaugural address, he spoke about the significance of Mangalore as a coastal town and stated that he is glad of the opportunity to inaugurate the commissionerate building, which cost Rs. 5.8 crores and the foundation stone for which was laid by former CM B. S. Yeddyurappa on Aug 23, 2010.
Further, he said that the new building shows that the state government is indeed concerned about the welfare of this district and that the home ministry has sanctioned ample funds for police training, sea erosion, and others.
Appreciating the ability of the police department to tackle any law and order situation in the state, he especially lauded them for their role in the successful organization of events such as Bala Srujanotsava and the 17th National Youth Festival. He also said that, thanks to the anti terrorism force and the anti naxal force, the police are capable of dealing with naxal as well as terrorist problems.
He also promised additional funds in the upcoming budget to finance projects such as police housing.
Speaking on the occasion, Police Housing Corporation President IPS Shankar Bidari said that Mangalore will soon grow at all levels and, by 2030, it will be equal to the Mumbai police.
CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda and Minister for Higher Education Dr. V. S. Acharya felicitated the winners of the President’s Shourya Award. The winners of this prestigious award are Rajesh K. and T. R. Puttaswamy Gowda.
Shrinivas R., the chief engineer of the new police building; Simon, the director of Simon Associations; and Ganesh of Guardian Construction and CCL Organization, were also honored on this occasion.
Delivering the presidential address, R. Ashok, the home and transport minister, said that the government had received the proposal for the new police building 17 years back and it now stands complete.
Lauding the police department, he said that they are solely responsible for the decline in the number of communal violence cases. He also said that the state government has introduced a package offer for naxals to encourage them to leave their groups and lead normal lives in their homes.
City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Sigh welcomed the gathering and DCP M Muthuraya proposed vote of thanks.
