Revealing further details, he said that the police got a tip, on the basis of which they set a trap for the two offenders near Hotel Ocean Pearl. The police have confiscated 6 credit cards from various credit card providers such as Standard Chartered, American Express, City Bank, and others, along with software used by the two to create fake credit cards, a laptop, equipment the two used to create fake cards, mobile phones, and an Internet modem.

The two also had in their possession purchase receipts worth Rs. 3.5 lakh from Hotel Leela Palace in Bangalore and from a place in Goa.

The two used to steal bank account numbers and credit card numbers of those who held accounts in foreign banks and used software to attach those details to fake credit cards. The mobiles seized from the two contained details such as credit card numbers and account numbers.
Mr. Singh said that the two knew a lot about banking and software and that the CCB will further investigate this case with the assistance of a banking expert.

He also voiced his suspicion that certain shop owners were aware of the crime as they accepted only cash from the two.

Regarding allegations against certain police officers that they had raided a beauty parlor because its owner did not give them hafta, the commissioner said that the case will be investigated and action will be taken against the police officers if they are found to be guilty. He, however, clarified that action cannot be taken based on media reports.

Speaking about the recent rape case in connection with which former mayor Ashraf was interrogated, he said that Waheed, one of the accused in the case, has surrendered and has been remanded to judicial custody. The other accused is still absconding and the police are hunting for him, he added.
