CAL celebrates platinum jubilee grandly

Mangalore, Nov 29: The Catholic Action League of St Sebastian Church, Bendoor, celebrated its platinum jubilee grandly in the premises of Bendoor Church on Nov 29, Sunday. 

The Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Fr. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza inaugurated the platinum jubilee celebrations of CAL and appreciated the association for the good work it has done all these years. He also released the CAL Souvenir, the Parish Telephone Directory, and two CDs of Claud D’Souza titled Roce ’N’ Brass and Claudia Konkani Hits. 

 

Prof Alban Castelino, the former president of CAL, was the guest of honor. In his speech, he said that the CAL in Bendoor formed a common platform for the youth to meet, interact, and serve society. In the past, when there was no TV and radio for entertainment, the youth were more than ready to join CAL, which not only helped them display their talents for public speaking and social service, but also gave them a great opportunity to enjoy and interact with one another, he said. 

Leslie Rego, a former president of CAL, was the chief guest. He spoke about the history of CAL and its achievements. He said that, in the past, CAL had plenty of members. The number of members has now dwindled because many are no longer interested in public communication and social interaction. Many young people are busy with unwanted things and have lost interest in the association. He said that the few members of CAL were not only lucky, but also talented enough to run CAL and utilize their talents for the benefit of society and community. 

The former presidents, directors, and top achievers of CAL were felicitated by Fr. Peter Noronha and Fr. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza. 

Ruben Fernandes, the secretary of CAL; Glen Rego, the president of CAL; and Zeena, the vice president of CAL were also the dignitaries on the dais.
