Mangalore, July 22, 2012: C. T. Ravi, who visited Mangalore for the first time after being appointed as the district-in-charge minister of DK, came across a number of protestors in front of the DC’s office.

Members of the Akhil Bharathiya Vidhyarth Parishad (ABVP), an organization to which C. T. Ravi used to belong, had pitched a tent outside the DC’s office. When they spotted the minister, they presented a memorandum to him as he is also the higher education minister.

In the memorandum, they urged him to restore the old method of admission to third and fifth semester polytechnic students. Chinmaya Rai, secretary of the Mangalore unit of the ABVP, said that the government had made the changes without any prior notice.

The memorandum also states that the circular was issued only after the exam results were announced. According to the new rules, students can gain admission to the third or fifth semester only if they do not have a backlog of 4 subjects. Mr. Rai pointed out that the government should have issued the circular before the exams.

In the memorandum, the ABVP has urged the government not only to re-introduce the carry-over system, but also to provide proper infrastructure to polytechnic colleges. It pointed out that students do not have proper labs, teachers, and buildings.

C. T. Ravi said that he will conduct an enquiry and resolve the issue at the earliest possible.
