Mangalore, Sep 10, 2012 : IGP (western range) Prathap Reddy has confirmed that the Maoist who died in an encounter with the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) in the forests of Subramanya is a Raichur man called Yallappa.
The Mangalore police after completing the formalities, buried the body of Yellappa at Nandigudda burial ground in Mangalore in the presence of his brother Thayappa and police officers.
Addressing reporters in the Mangalore Police Commissionerate on September 9, Sunday, IGP, Mr. Reddy said that Yallappa’s family came to Mangalore to identify his body.
Revealing further details, Mr. Reddy said that the police records of Raichur mention his name as Yellappa, son of Gadiappa. The Sadarbazaar police had registered a case against him for being involved in a murder in 2003. Although acquitted in 2005, he never returned home. His family claims that they know nothing about his Naxal connections.
Taayappa, elder brother of Yallappa, identified the body. As per the records of the Raichur police, Yallappa has a scar on his shoulder, and since the body also has a similar scar, the police have identified him as Yallappa for sure.
Although Yallappa never returned home, none of his relatives registered a missing person case with the police, said Mr. Reddy.
Upon completion of formalities, the police allowed the body to be buried in Mangalore. IGP, Prathap Reddy said that the police will thoroughly investigate Yallappa’s Naxal connections.
