Bishop inaugurates centenary celebrations of Loretto School

Bantwal, Dec 21, 2011: Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, inaugurated the centenary celebrations of Loretto Aided Higher Primary School and its new English medium high school building, presided over the event, and also felicitated the donors and well-wishers of the school on Dec 20 Tuesday.

One of the chief guests of the event was social worker Dolphy D’Souza, who felicitated those who played an active role in constructing the school building.

MLA Ramanath Rai presented mementos to donors and expressed his appreciation of Christian educational institutions for their selfless service to society.

Fr. Wilson V. D’Souza, the secretary of the Catholic Board of Education, expressed his gratitude to all who supported the construction of the new school building.

Sr. Agatha Mary, the superior general of Apostolic Carmel, honored previous and present headmasters and headmistresses of the school and wished the school well.

Sr. Lenita D’Souza, the provincial head of the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters, honored present and previous teachers and wished the school well. She also expressed hopes that the school will soon have a PUC and degree college attached to it.

Speaking after distributing the prizes, Block Education Officer Sudhakar K. said that the school has achieved a lot during the past 100 years and appreciated the school authorities for their great service.

Catholic Education Board Fr. Wilson D’Souza released the souvenir titled “Sadi Rashmi.” Sr. Leena Pereira, the headmistress of the school, presented the school centenary report.

Sr. Elina Rodrigues, the provincial head of the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, felicitated talented sportsperson Vivian Tauro. Bharathi S. Chowta, the president of the Gram Panchayat, felicitated the person who suggested the name for the souvenir. Irene Menezes, an old student of the school, also spoke on the occasion.


Fr. Rocky D’Souza, the chief priest of the Bantwal Varado, hoisted the school flag in the morning in the presence of Fr. Victor D’Souza, the former parish priest; Denis and Irene Menezes of Pune; and Irene Menezes of Belgium. A holy mass was also celebrated on the occasion.

Prominent people such as Sr. Benedicta, the headmistress of the high school; Walter Noronha, the convener of the centenary committee; Hubert Lobo, the vice president of the parish council; Pius Rodriges, the president of the Parents Teachers Association; Mary Pinto; Swati Carlo; and many others were also present.

A grand cultural program formed part of the event.
